Neurodiversity Affirming Therapy

Understanding Neurodiversity

Neurodiverse is a term that represents those who experience neurodiversity, which is a naturally occurring and normal variation in neurotype which may influence how a person’s brain functions, processes information and emotions, and engages with the world.

A neurodivergent person may experience many strengths and some differences or challenges due to their neurotype.

Some neurotypes that are considered to be neurodiverse are ADHD, autism (ASD), AuDHD, dyslexia, and OCD, among many others

My professional experience includes working with those who find out post-childhood that they are neurodivergent, specifically ADHD, autistic, and/or AuDHD. We can work together to help you understand your experiences of masking or camouflaging, meltdowns, or burn-out.

I have also supported clients in exploring issues related to sensory processing challenges or sensitives and low self-esteem or self-image. We may also explore any past or current experiences of anxious or depressive symptoms, which often co-occur with neurodivergence.

My Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy perspective aims to provide a safe space where I do not see your neurodivergence as a “flaw” or something to be “fixed”

Instead, we will work together to help you to understand your neurotype and your unique experiences of being a neurodivergent person in a world that has historically prioritized and recognized neurotypical people. We will explore what specific areas of concerns or challenges you have and would like support with. We will also explore and support your understanding of the valuable strengths and gifts your neurotype offers to you and the world.

Please be in touch so that we can get started with supporting your needs so that you can live with more self-understanding and empowerment.
